In September 1967, Dr. Dian Fossey founded the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda's Virunga Mountains, launching what remains one of the longest continuous studies of any species in the world.

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
A Community Driven Conservation Story
Nestled in Kenya's remote Mathews Range, home to the country's second-largest elephant population, the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary rescues orphaned and abandoned elephant calves — nurturing them with the goal of returning them to the wild herds beyond its gates.
Reteti is more than a sanctuary. It is the heart of a widely recognized, community-led conservation movement sweeping across northern Kenya that is building new economies, transforming lives, and preserving natural resources for generations to come.
